Steven Munro wins with Albatross! in UAEPGA Champs

26th Apr 16 at 03:51pm

Steven Munro won the 2016 UAE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP in fine style with a -4 total of 140 (72-68) at Abu Dhabi National GC.

Having opened up with a solid level Par 72, Munro went to the turn in -2under par, and then hit the shot of the year on the Par 5 10th hole, to hole out his 2nd shot for an Albatross to move to -5, by the time he had reached the 15th hole Munro was -6 for his round, and leading by 5. He was halted by a double bogie 5 at the par 3, and another dropped shot at 17th cut his lead to 2 over Malcolm Young who was on 18 needing a birdie.

Having played very solidly for 2 rounds Malcolm needed his putter to work on the 18th, where he unfortuantley missed his birdie attempt. Munro confidently birdied the last for an impressive 68 to win by 3.

Tom Buchanan finished in 3rd place with 72-72 for Level Par.

Also to be decided was the OOM title between Cennydd Mills and 5 time defending champion Callum Nicoll. Having been in 1st and 2nd place overnight, the duo struggled on day 2 and in the end it came down to the last hole where Callum birdied, and Cennydd missed from about 15feet.

This was enough to give Callum his 6th Sucessive title by 24.5 pts!
